I had intended on releasing a ten year anniversary version of my first proper album which was released in 2014, but so far in 2026 I have only managed to record two of them! This one turned out well and so I have decided to start the ball rolling by releasing it as a single. The plan was to change the songs in line with how I might do things these days, but since coming up with the plan the musical landscape has changed and the direction of my efforts changed a little too.
The song is about meeting someone new after a failed relationship and having everyone warn you off over every single thing. You know they just don't want you to be hurt, but you're sure that this person is the one and they won't shut up. This was written about a real person who I was sure was the one for me, but I had been cheated on before and people were cautious for me. I ploughed on regardless and as this is now 12 years later, I can tell you that she was the one and we are married with two children now.
The moral is, ignore your friends and this song came out of me doing just that and has a special place for me as I turned out to be right for once. It also now serves as a rebirth of Elison as I have realised in recent months that A.I. can now do standard Elison better and quicker than I can, so I won't do standard anymore. It seems to me that any music that sounds like anything that has gone before can simply be repeated by A.I. as it is basically the perfect photocopier. This should make us try harder and I think this is going to be a very good time for music as artists push beyond the norm to try and find a new marketable place alongside the more standard A.I. stuff. Don't get me wrong. That A.I. can make that music serves an important role as supporting music in a great many fields, but as an artist it felt recently that we were forced into making the same old music to align with playlists. Surely the playlists will all be full of A.I. now, so we can give up on that and just make great stuff.
This is my first attempt at finding a new sound and although a departure, I haven't reinvented the wheel. I do feel really positive about it and I hope to develop on it and find new directions as I re-record the rest of the songs from A Familiar View, taking them to better places and making better music along the way. The future is bright for music I think.
